Case studies

Our empirical work focuses on two European municipalities: Grenoble (France) and Freiburg (Germany). Both cities are internationally recognized for their pro-social and pro-environmental approaches, although many of their actions are oriented towards green growth. However, both municipalities have introduced initiatives aimed at reducing reliance on price and market mechanisms in areas such as public utilities, procurement, district development, and economic promotion. These efforts present promising entry points for research on growth autonomy.
