On November 6–7, 2024, we participated in the Beyond Growth Conference in Bonn. This event brought together academics and practitioners to explore the necessity and feasibility of strategies for moving beyond societal and institutional growth orientations.
The conference addressed a range of growth-critical approaches and concepts, with thematic focuses on international cooperation and the challenges and opportunities of post-growth transformations.
Our contributions drew on current research projects. Benedikt Schmid discussed the ambivalent role of growth in urban experiments with Donut Economics, highlighting examples from Bad Nauheim and Tomelilla. Coline Chardon presented on overcoming demolition-centered urban development, using Villeneuve in Grenoble as a case study.
